Baby shower for a friend

On Saturday I threw a baby shower for a my beautiful friend, Ashley. I loved putting it all together and with much help from pinterest, I think it came out quite nicely.

It all started with an invitation.

I had lots of help from Jana and Tricia with the fabulous food you see there. It was all really yummy!

Ashley's mom and some of her siblings made a surprise visit (they live in Arizona) for the weekend. It was great having them all there. Having family around makes any special occasion more special.

I'm excited to meet her sweet little girl in just about 4 weeks.

At the zoo I was verbally mapping out our route and said, "We can go that way then come back and hit the goats". Jackson said, "No. We're not going to hit the goats, Mom." 10/01/09

When we were potty training Jackson and would ask if he needed to poopoo, if he didn't he would tell us, "the poopoo is just asleep in my bottom."

Jackson eating french fries today picked up a long one and told me it was a Mommy french fry. Then he picked up a small one and said it was a Caroline french fry. I asked where the Daddy fry was and he said, "Oh. I fink I ate him". 10/03/09

When Jackson asks me a question and I tell him no he will often let me know that wasn't the response he was looking for and instruct me to answer with "Um. Yes."

As we sat listening to Brandi Carlile's newest album and played with Caroline's new phone, Jackson handed the phone to me and told me it was Brandi calling and she wanted to talk to me. We chatted for a little while and I told her how much we were enjoying her new CD. If only Jackson knew how much I would flip out if she actually called. - 10/06/09

Jackson talking about the upcoming weekend's events: "I am going to see Blue Buzz and Red Buzz (Toy Story 1 and 2) at the movie veater with the guy called Daddy. We're going to have paaawcorn (gotta stretch out the paw), candy and another sprite."

Lacey: "That is amazing."

Jackson: "Yeah. That IS amazing!" - 10/09/09

Chad and Lacey: "I scream. You scream. We all scream for ice cream."

Jackson: "We don't scream ice cream. We yick it with our tongues out. Like this. (He then proceeded to stick his tongue out.) 10/10/09

Jackson was in our room jumping on the bed and I told him to get down and left the room. I came back after a few minutes and found that he was still jumping. This is the exchange we had.

Lacey: "Didn't I tell you to get off of the bed?"

Jackson: "I'm not on the bed."

Lacey: "Where are you then?"

Jackson: "I'm on the piyows (pillows)."

He was, in fact, only jumping on the pillows. 10/12/09

Jackson and I were talking about Jana's new baby and about how we were going to have a party for her and get her a present. Jackson said, "We need to get her a present from Office Depot." Ha! Nothing says "welcome to the world" like a nice stapler. 10/21/09

Jackson had a friend over to play this morning and we were talking with her about Halloween. I asked what she was going to dress up as and she said , "A ballerina girl." Then Jackson said to her, " I think you should be Bear Grylls." 10/24/09

As we passed a water tower this afternoon Jackson said to me, "Mommy, when I'm big and older can I get on that?"

He can't wait until he's "big and older". Though, I did tell him that climbing on water towers isn't a good idea, big and older or not. 10/30/09

Jackson: Probably not.

Jackson sat on my lap after dinner tonight and in the middle of our conversation he pooted on my leg.

Lacey: Whoa. Did you just poot on my leg?

Jackson: No. I didn't.

Lacey: Well, it smells like poop. Did you poop on my leg?

Jackson: No. You just smell like poop.

Fabulous. My son thinks I smell like poop. That's great.

*This is more a 'The things he does' than 'The things he says'-

We had our Relief Society Christmas party and Jackson and Caroline got to hang out in the nursery because Chad had to go out of town. They were having cookies for a snack and when Jackson got the last one Jana's mom, who was nice enough to watch the kids for us, noticed that Caroline didn't get one. Jackson turned and gave her his cookie. That boy makes me so proud!

As I rubbed Jackson's forehead tonight with my fingertips he stopped me and said, "Use your toenails." Through my laughter I asked if he meant to say "fingernails". That is what he meant to say. Then he licked me and I licked him back. 1/09/10

This morning Jackson joined Chad and I in our bed and was wearing different pj's than he had gone to sleep in. I asked why he changed and he replied, "I got peepee in my Buzz pajamas so I got dressed up."

Did you notice that I changed the title? I did so because our sweet Caroline is beginning to say a few things and they are priceless.

This morning I sent Jackson to his room to pick a pair of shorts and a shirt to wear. After just a minute or so he came back to the kitchen with clothes in hand and asked, "Mom, do these shorts match this shirt?" They did, in fact, match.

"Good shower?" - Caroline has starting asking this when either Chad or I get out of the shower. And sometimes hours after the shower.

Jackson jumped onto Chad's back and hurt him. Caroline was very concerned and even gave Chad a back rub to make him feel better.

Caroline was talking to me from across the room when Jackson got in her line of sight and started talking to me as well. Caroline then said, "Hey, I was talking to you!"

Last night at the dinner table Jackson was excused to use the bathroom and on his way he stopped and asked us if we would "keep an eye on Caroline."

Caroline has pretty great conversations on her play phone with various family members and friends. Sometimes they're serious and other times they're hilarious. One thing that is constant with all of the them is the pacing. Just like her mom and dad, she can't be still while on the phone. She's a pacer.

When Caroline wakes up in the morning, there is one thing on her mind.

"Good morning, Caroline."

"I want milk."

"Did you sleep well?'

"I want milk."

You won't get a different response from her until she gets her milk.

As I was putting Jackson to bed, we were talking about the day. Jackson stopped talking, sniffed the air and said, "It smells like my ipod's dead."

I didn't know you could smell a dead battery. Apparently, Jackson has some superhuman skills.

After swimming at a friend's house, Jackson recounted this to Chad: "I jumped off the really high part and it didn't get me killed."

Playing light saber fights with Chad tonight, Chad had fallen to the ground and Jackson put his light saber down to check on him. Upon examination, Jackson determined that he was, "kinda dead". He then backed away and Chad sprang to his feet. At that Jackson exclaimed, "He's not dead!" and quickly grabbed his light saber again.

When Jackson has completed his duties in the bathroom he will call out, "Mommy, I'm finich."

According to Jackson we do our grocery shopping at "Rawlmart".

Caroline likes to eat, "Sfrench fries" and "Setchup"

Caroline loved all of the "Cumpins" around this fall.

Caroline has been speaking very well but every once in a while she'll head off on a gibberish spell that no one can understand.

Before bed each night we gather as a family to read scriptures together. Caroline gets the award for cutest pronunciation of the word scriptures. When she says "cippers" it always puts a smile on my face.

Last night Caroline brought me one of her unnamed baby dolls and proceeded to go through a list of possible, but complete gibberish names for her. Until she finally settled on Hobby Lobby. I think it works.

Chad and Jackson were racing each other on Mario Kart and neither of them were doing very well. Chad said, "We shouldn't play this one - we're not very good." Jackson replied, "We should try to get good at it."

That's the spirit, son!!

Chad also said he "hated" that race at one point. Jackson scolded him for saying "hate" and told him he should say he doesn't like it very much.

I think that's 2 points for Jackson.

As the kiddos took they're turn finding me in a game of hide and seek and had no luck after a minute of searching Jackson exclaimed, "I think she just ran away." I almost gave myself away with laughter.

I introduced the kids to 'The Princess Bride' this morning. They both sat watching it almost in it's entirety. The only break was a short 10 minute-ish one in the middle for some sword fighting. Now it's nap time and Caroline is in her bed saying (and sometimes yelling) "Princess Buttercup" over and over.

While placing a to go order for chicken at the drive through Jackson called out his drink order. "I'll have a coke." To which I replied, "We're having water at home." With a great amount of disbelief in his voice he exclaimed, "WHAT?!"

While in the car with the kiddos Jackson said something silly and Caroline responded, "Are you serious?"

Jackson was playing with a toy, Caroline took said toy and when I made her give it back she clapped her hands to her face and in a fake crying voice said, "Oh my goodness!"

When Caroline needs something to wipe crumbs from her hands and face she asks for a "mapmin".

I realized this morning that I never put the awesome way that Caroline pronounced grapes on this blog. It came to me as she ate them and said the word with the correct pronunciation. I was sad. I sure did love when she would ask for a "bape". She's growing up way too fast!

A couple weeks ago I was having a particularly hard time getting Caroline into the bathtub and with each of her screams my frustration leveled soared. Jackson, sensing my frustration, came to me, put his arm around me and said, "You're a great mom. I love you." What a sweetie I have.

The other night as Caroline said her bedtime prayer she prayed that we'd be "inbited to LeeLee's pool." Nielie is our friend and we went swimming in her pool last week. In the swimming pool this afternoon I introduced Jackson to the pure awesomeness of jumping off your mom's shoulders into the water. We'd done it a couple of times and he loved it. The third time as he climbed on my shoulders he said, "Let's do this thing." I was laughing so hard he almost fell off.

As I kissed Caroline goodnight, for what I thought was the final time tonight, she said, "Mom, I just need to tell you two more fings."

It turned out she just need to tell me two more "fings" several more times after that. By the time I left the room she'd told me about 8 more "fings".

I tried talking to Caroline about how she had misbehaved for a babysitter and this was her response, "I don't want to talk about that right now."

After many failed attempts at calling both children to the bath I went to retrieve them. When I expressed displeasure by saying " i'm tired of repeating myself over and over.", Caroline came back with, " I'm tired of you being my mommy.". She later admitted she did like me being her mommy.

We took a man from church some pie on his birthday last week. As we left his house Jackson said to me, "That Brother Merrill is a good guy."

Caroline informed me she has 7 sisters and their names are: Dilla, Nina, Borko, Danka, Ninny, Ella and Trillakya.

At dinner tonight Caroline told me, "Some people are addicted to me."

In the car on the way home from school the children were being especially loud. I asked them to be quieter and told them they were giving me a headache. A few minutes later Caroline was getting loud again and Jackson said to her, "Please be quiet. You're giving me a cold."

As we were getting ready for dinner last night (Christmas Eve) Chad came around the corner and Caroline asked him, "Do you know what we're having with dinner?" Then in a very sing songy voice she exclaimed, "Soda!"

I ran through the the list of options for lunch with Caroline, "PBandJ, cheese with crackers and fruit, macaroni and cheese, ham sandwich, tuna sandwich." She piped in, "Yes! A tuna sandwich." I was a bit surprised by her enthusiasm. I didn't know she liked them even a little bit, but ok. I got a can of tuna from the pantry and placed it on the counter. When she saw it there she said, "But I wanted the brown kind." Very confused I said, "I don't know what you're talking about." She repeated, "I want the brown tuna." I asked her to show me what wanted and she did. She walked to the pantry and pointed up at the Nutella saying, "That. The brown tuna."

After reading stories and playing in Caroline's room before bed, I asked Jackson to go clean up his room. He said, "I already did it when you didn't ask me. I was choosing the right."

Me: No. There weren't iPods when I was a little girl.

Jackson: Oh. So did you just have to listen to the radio?

Caroline told us the other night, "I'm sweaty of sleeping in my bed." In other words, she wanted to sleep with us. Being "sweaty" of something is a phrase our children have created to let us know they are tired of something. It's my new favorite phrase.

As I finished running the garbage disposal in the sink Caroline said to me, "Mom, that scared my ears."

At the start of a Scooby Doo movie Chad had not seen he asked Caroline, "Is this a good Scooby Doo?" to which she replied, "It's a little monstery."

I told Caroline I would lay down with her for 2 minutes at bed time. After I got comfortable she counted out all of her fingers and held them up for me to see. "Look, Mommy. Look at all your minutes. There are a lot of minutes for you to stay with me." As it turned out, I did stay with her for a lot of minutes.

Me: Caroline, would you like to sweep the laundry room?

Caroline: Oh, no. That's ok. You can do it.

Like she was doing me a favor or something. She cracks me up!

When I found a pair of Tinkerbell panties on the bathroom floor I called to Caroline and asked," Caroline, do you have panties on?" Her response, "Well, of course." When I asked what happened to the other pair she said, "Oh, I just peed in those."

Jackson was going through his lego ship instruction booklet page by page and explaining to me exactly how he had put it together. He had to take a potty break and when he came back he sat down next to me, picked the booklet up and said, "Now, as I was saying..."

The other night in the bath Jackson had washed his hair with a 2-in-one shampoo and conditioner. He picked the bottle back up and started to put more in his hand. I asked, "Didn't you already do that?" He said, "But it's shampoo AND conditioner." Our son, the literalist.

Caroline loves to watch shows on "Neckflix".
