I don't know that there is much more that is as exciting as the build up to Christmas day. We've done so many fun things during the month of December (only some of which did I actually document here). But, the last few days before Christmas were some of the most fun.
Here's what we did.
First, Oma and Cody came to visit for a few days.
And they brought presents.
Jackson got a gun (and other things)
Caroline got a tutu
And immediately starting spinning and dancing.
Oma and Cody helped us make our gingerbread house (which fell apart again). But, later, when we thought all hope was lost for out little house, Oma stepped in and saved the day. It is actually sitting on our kitchen table as a centerpiece at this very moment. It's hard as a rock, but it looks pretty.
Uncle Cody and Oma played and played and played with Jackson and Caroline. Before they left we had to sit and read one of Jackson's new books.
And try to get a picture by the tree. Keep in mind I said "try".
We also visited a little town nearby and saw their awesome light display. Those pictures are on Chad's phone. We'll see those later.
The Hugginses invited us to join them in Jefferson for Christmas train ride. Well, that's a no brainer, right? The answer is ABSOLUTELY! We met them in the cute little town of Jefferson, met some mules on the way to dinner, we ate dinner very quickly so as to not miss our 6pm train. We ran to the train station and got there with 5 minutes to spare. However, the conductor's watch wasn't in sync with anyone else's so he pulled out early. WHAT?!
No worries though, we were assured we could catch the 7pm train. In the meantime, we wandered down the quaint little street to the Jefferson General Store where we salivated over buckets and buckets of candy and finally gave in to some ice cream.
On Christmas eve we took some treats to our friendly neighborhood firemen. Most of the firemen and the big truck were out on a call but the 2 firemen that were at the station were grateful for the treats and thanked us by letting us see one of the other trucks and take a picture.
That was part of our advent calendar and it was really fun to do.
Also on Christmas eve, some friends from church invited us and another family over for dinner. it was really fun to be with them. The food was fantastic and the company was splendid. We talked, laughed and ate - 3 of my favorite things to do. Their sweet children were so good to our kids and they even attempted to coordinate a retelling of the Nativity - with costumes and everything. However, it was getting late and the little ones basically refused to participate. Their youngest son, Chase, is 8 and Jackson loved hanging out with him.
It was a really fun way to spend Christmas eve.
When we got home we opened our Christmas jammies...

and made our cookies for Santa.
Then we nestled snuggly in our beds and waited in hopes that Santa would visit us.
We had so much fun preparing for Christmas this year. Chad and I both enjoyed sharing the nativity story, watching Christmas movies, reading Christmas stories, teaching about service, baking, and really just spending time together as a family. It really made this holiday memorable and special. I hope each of you also had a memorable anticipation of Christmas!
